Start with what needs practice
Tell your instructor which tasks feel uncertain: approaching an intersection, choosing a gap, reversing or managing a busy street. Use a lesson to identify the cause and practise a manageable step. Repeating a weak habit without feedback can make it harder to change.
Set yourself up before moving
Adjust your seat and mirrors while parked. Make sure your view is clear and your seatbelt is fastened. A familiar setup helps you focus on the road instead of reaching for controls after moving.
Observe before you act
Toronto streets bring together drivers, pedestrians and cyclists. Give yourself time to look for people and changing traffic before a turn or lane change. Mirrors help, but they do not reveal every blind spot.
Practise control, not a memorized route
Your goal is to handle ordinary road situations safely. Work on smooth speed changes, appropriate spacing and accurate positioning. No lesson offers access to official test routes or a promised result.
Discuss a test-day plan
Check your appointment’s current instructions with DriveTest. If you need a warm-up or instructor vehicle, provide your date and test centre early enough to ask about availability and receive a quote. A request alone does not reserve the car.
