Start with the journeys you actually make
List your commute, family trips and regular parking situations. Think about visibility, easy-to-reach controls and whether the car feels manageable on your local streets. A vehicle that suits a long highway commute may not fit a tight apartment parking space.
Get an insurance quote before committing
Ask a licensed broker, agent or insurer for a quote for the particular vehicle and your actual driving situation. Be clear about who will drive it, your G2 status, where it will be kept and how it will be used. Do not assume a model or lesson package will produce a particular premium.
Check where the car will live
Confirm your building’s parking arrangements, monthly cost and space dimensions. For street parking, verify permit eligibility and the rules for your address with the City. Ownership of a car does not establish eligibility for a street permit.
Inspect a used vehicle independently
Follow Ontario’s used-vehicle guidance for the documents and checks that apply to your purchase. Review the vehicle’s history, ownership and applicable safety-certificate requirements. Ask a qualified mechanic about condition and likely repair needs before agreeing to buy.
Plan for more than the purchase price
